Broadcast Pioneer Lisa Thomas-Laury Shares Her Success Story with Philly’s Communications Professionals

PHILADELPHIA, March 16, 2007 - In honor of Women’s History Month, the Philadelphia Black Public Relations Society in partnership with PECO, An Exelon Company will host the sixth annual Milestones: Stories of African American Women in the Media, Tuesday, March 27, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the PECO Building, 2301 Market Street on the lower level.

Lisa Thomas-Laury of 6ABC is the featured speaker for Milestones. Thomas-Laury will share the highs and lows of her longstanding broadcast career, which spans nearly three decades, and provide attendees with insight on how to achieve success in the competitive field of communications.

The event will be emceed by the longtime talk-radio host Thera Martin Connelly.

“Milestones is our signature Women’s History Month event,” says Dawn Jones, president of PBPRS. “This much anticipated event allows us to acknowledge African American women who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and paved the way for future generations in this rewarding field.”

The Milestones event was designed to motivate, encourage and educate professionals and students in all aspects of the communications industry. Professionals in various communications positions throughout the tri-state area, including public relations, internal communications, marketing, government relations, broadcast journalism, etc., will be in attendance.

“We are very pleased to have Lisa Thomas-Laury as our special guest for this year’s celebration,” says Jones.

Attendees will have an opportunity to engage in an informative Q&A session with Lisa Thomas-Laury and to gain practical advice and tips for succeeding in the communications field through networking with the other dynamic industry professionals who will be in attendance.

This event is free for PBPRS members and $5 for students with a valid school ID. Non-members will be charged $15 for admission, with all proceeds going towards the PBPRS scholarship fund to support future communications professionals.
